Mindweave is built to collect as little as possible. This page says what it does collect, so you can decide for yourself.

This website

The website sets no cookies, has no analytics and no advertising, and loads nothing from other companies. Even the fonts are served from the site itself. The company that hosts the site keeps ordinary server logs, such as your IP address and browser, the way any web host does. I do not use them to follow anyone.

The desktop app and the terminal program

Your code, your files, your conversations and your keys stay on your computer. Mindweave has no account system, and the only thing it sends to a server of mine is the small daily count described below.

When you ask it to do something, it sends your conversation to the AI company whose model you picked, using the key you gave it, or to a model running on your own computer. That company's own privacy policy covers what it does with the text. Mindweave is not involved in that exchange and never sees it.

Data: the daily count

Newer versions of the terminal program share one small count a day, so the public Data page can show which models perform best, which gets the best cache hit rate, and how many people use Mindweave. It is on by default, it says so on screen every time the program starts, and you turn it off with the /data command. The command also shows you the exact message before anything is sent. Setting MINDWEAVE_NO_ANALYTICS=1 turns it off for good, and nothing is sent from tests, scratch runs or scripts.

It is sent after your first real work of the day, once a day. The message holds a random number made on your computer, the version, your operating system and the day. For each model used in the last two days it holds how many tokens went in fresh, how many came from the provider's cache and how many went out, with the number of calls and sessions and the cost at the provider's list price. A model's name is sent only if it is one built into Mindweave, and any other is sent as "other" and never listed anywhere. The message never holds a prompt, a reply, a file name, a path, a project name or a key. You can read the code that builds and sends it in analytics.ts on GitHub.

When the message arrives, the host reports the two letters of the country the connection came from, and I keep only those two letters next to your random number. The address itself is not read or stored. The Data page carries no id, name or path, only counts. While Mindweave is young, a model or a country can be listed from a single install, so a small number there may be one person's use. The first message also carries your last 60 days of the same counts, once, so the history on the Data page fills in. You can turn that off, or the whole count, in /data.

Some earlier versions sent a random number and the version once a day, and the version before this one sent nothing. A setting an earlier version saved there belonged to that simpler count and no longer keeps this one off. The random number in analytics.json in the .mindweave folder in your home folder is the one used now; you can start over with a new one in /data, or delete the file.

Feedback

If you send feedback from the program, it goes into a Google Form, so Google handles it as well. Send only what you are happy to share, and leave out anything private. Whatever you write there I can read, and I may keep it to fix the problem you describe.

Email

If you write to me, I get your email address and whatever you put in the message. I use it only to answer you, and I keep the conversation for as long as it is useful to both of us. You can ask me to delete it at any time. Please do not send anything confidential in a first message.

Updates

The desktop app checks GitHub for a newer version about every six hours. This is a plain request for two small files. It sends no account, no identifier and nothing about you or your computer, though GitHub sees the request the way any website sees a visitor. The app downloads an update only after you press the button.

Downloads and other sites

The downloads and the source code are on GitHub, and the terminal program is on npm. Those services have their own privacy policies, and they may record that you downloaded something.

Your rights

If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom or somewhere with similar laws, you can ask what I hold about you, ask me to delete it, or object to it. What the count holds is anonymous, so I can only find it if you send me the number from the analytics.json file mentioned above. To ask, open an issue on GitHub. Please do not put anything private in it.
